GoldMine 7.0.4 Rumor

Latest rumor is that GoldMine 7.0.4 for both Standard Edition & Corporate Editions of GoldMine will be released in September.  This will be the first time Standard Edition customers will be able to upgrade to GoldMine 7, now using the FireBird database backend, rather than dBASE.

I am expecting a bunch of bug fixes and support for Crystal Reports XI.

GoldMine 7.0.3 is a very good build with the exception of a sync issue, so I'm expecting that this should be rock solid and very much ready for prime time.

GoldMine Plus Accounting for Quick Books 4.0

Saw this from John Stillman, GoldMine developer on the FRS Forums regarding new featuers in the upcoming (Perhaps October) 4.0 version of the product:

Compatibility with QB2006, GM6.7 and 7.0 and higher, and W2K3
QuickLink has a "Find this contact in QB" button if QB is running.
Trial run mode in the administrator - see what's going to happen to your data before you commit it.
Set Sync New and Sync Changed directions, with To GM, To QB, Both, or None independantly.
Much faster startup times.
Service monitor application to start/stop the service from the system tray.
Supports curtaining of new records from QB into GM.
expanded matching rules
Specialized field mapping for QuickBooks List Names - you can have a generated list name (like GM+QB 3.0 (Company (Contact) or use a bi-directional field mapping.
Plain text support for history items - better for reports
Many, many bug fixes and logic enhancements....

Turning a SQL Query into a Group

This question has come up a couple of times in the GoldMine Forums, so I thought I'd post some directions here.

Enoy!

SQL Queries are great things... You can pretty much pull any GoldMine data that you'd like and slice and dice it to your heart's content.  Where they fail, though, is that you can't perform GoldMine actions like mass emailing, scheduling, or running a report against them.

To do this you'll need to turn that SQL Query into a Group.  Here's how.

First, run your SQL Query so the results are on the screen.

Sqlquery_1

Then switch to GoldMine's Group Tab.  In the upper-white window do a Right Click | New.

New

You'll then be prompted to enter a Group Name.  Name it what ever you'd like.  The code field is an 8 character code that can be used for anything you'd like.  Since Groups are static, i.e. they do not automatically update I recommend putting in the date they're created so you know how 'fresh' the data is.  Be sure the Build Group button is checked then click OK.

Groupprofile

Now we're in the Group Building Wizard.  Click the SQL Query Records button.  If this is grayed out it means you don't have anything appearing in the SQL tab...

Grpwizard

At this point you click Next for options.  Normally we don't need these as sorting, etc. can be done after.  For our intro purposes here from the Group Building Wizard a Next | Next | Finish will be good.

You'll now see the group listed in the group names!
